Last night I went and saw the movie “The Life of David Gale”. It is about the death penalty and is it useful or not. The main character, David Gale, is going to be executed in the state of Texas for the rape and murder of a follow colleague at Deathwatchers (anit- death penalty supporters). The movie has a lot of twist that you have to find out yourself by going and seeing it. Warning: the movie has some graphic sex scenes.
This movie made me think about a variety of things about the death penalty. I know God instituted capital punishment in Genesis.I am in support of the death penalty only if the person is found guilty without a shadow of doubt. If there is any doubt, then the person should not be killed until the evidence proves him to have committed the crime. If a person confesses to the crime, then the death penalty should be implemented.
I also think that those on death row should not have to wait forever to be executed. In California, there are over 200 inmates on death row. Some of them have been there for like 12 years. These aren’t your first offenders either. A majority of them are multiple offenders or serial killers/rapists. I think it is a waste of our money to help this people live while they took the lives of many others that did not have a chance to live.
What do you think with this issue?
